)( PRESERVATION VIRGINIA 2013 AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PRESERVATION AND EDUCATION
StudioAmmons was engaged by the Moton Museum to develop the interpretive plan, permanent exhibits (including identity and all printed collateral materials), and the restoration of the historic school which has been established as a National Historic Landmark. The Moton School is the site of the 1951 student strike, led by 16-year-old Barbara Johns that led to one of the five court cases included in the historic Brown v. Board of Education decision, which ultimately led to the desegregation of the public school systems in the United States. The Museum will be the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights in Education.
