King and Queen Courthouse Tavern Museum
John Smith Exhibit
In December, 1607, John Smith was captured and held captive by the Powhatan Indians. He was forced to march some 200 miles around the area between the James and Rappahannock Rivers, including King and Queen County, before being returned to Jamestown unharmed. StudioAmmons created an exhibit about this march for the King and Queen County Historical Society, including a map of modern-day Virginia with an overlay of the route on which he was taken.
