ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES
We are Architects: As a full service architecture firm, we can provide our clients with a wide range of general design services either on a full-service basis or as a design consultant working with your team to help give shape and definition to your project ideas and proposals.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION
We have over 60 years of Historic Preservation Experience: Between Terry Ammons, our firm’s principal, and Gibson Worsham, our Director of Historic Preservation, we bring over 60 years of experience interpreting and restoring historic structures and sites throughout the U.S. Gibson has a Masters Degree in Architectural History and provides sound academic research and building analysis on our projects. We have helped many organizations and institutions plan and develop their historic buildings and sites to meet the needs of their ever-evolving missions to serve their communities. Gibson, formerly the Historic Architect for the state of Kentucky, has completed hundreds of historic structures reports and is familiar with the creation and documentation of historic districts of all kinds. Recently, our Mount Pleasant Restoration project won Preservation Virginia’s 2010 Preservation Project of the Year award and just this past year our #8 Old Street Project in Petersburg, Virginia won the Virginia Downtown Development Association’s only Award of Excellence for 2011. Our recently completed Moton Museum project has just won Preservation Virginia's 2014 Award for Excellence in Preservation and Education as well as top honors by the Southeast Conference of Museums.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
We are restoration specialists: StudioAmmons is one of the few firms practicing in the preservation field that have the expertise to plan, develop and implement project requiring academic accuracy in historic restoration. We have long standing working relationship with the historic architecture specialists at Colonial Williamsburg and often work, in partnership, with them on challenging restoration projects, sharing ideas, knowledge and expertise across the project team. Our Mount Pleasant restoration project won Preservation Virginia's Preservation Project of the Year in 2010 and was noted by Elizabeth Kostelney, their Executive Director as "the most extensive private preservation project ever undertaken in the Commonwealth of Virginia." In our recently completed Robert Russa Moton Musem, a National Landmark designated building, the centerpiece of the project was the restoration of the auditorium to its 1951 appearance.
MUSEUM DESIGN AND CONSULTING
We love great museums: Whether you are looking to create a new museum or expand or upgrade your existing facilities, StudioAmmons will work with you to critically assess your museum's needs and resources. We will work with you and your stakeholders and partners to develop specific solutions for your museum that creatively enhance and support your mission while working closely with you to insure that your operations, collections management, visitor services, and public relations strategies are thoroughly considered and carefully integrated into your project planning.
MUSEUM AND ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING
We are museum lighting specialists: Terry Ammons has moved comfortably between the architecture and museum/exhibit world for over 20 years. For five of those years he specialized in museum and exhibit lighting in Washington, D.C., while working for the firm of George Sexton Associates. Appropriate building and site lighting are key to allowing the architecture to support the exhibit experience throughout the facility. Terry has designed the lighting systems for such national landmarks as Monticello, the Robert Russa Moton Museum, St. Bartholomew’s Church in NYC, and Historic Christ Church in Raleigh NC.
AIRPORT TERMINAL DESIGN
We are General Aviation Terminal Specialists: For the past 15 years, StudioAmmons has been involved in the planning and design of over 8 new terminal buildings for general aviation airports throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Many of these projects are focused in areas where the regional airports are serving as support and backup airports for the larger national airports like Norfolk or Dulles. On all of our airport projects we work in close partnership with the airport engineers, consultants and regional airport authorities to successfully plan and implement projects with community and regional support that will help increase economic opportunities throughout the region.
