2011 U.S. Solar Decathlon

For the first time, the Solar Decathlon was moved from its original location on the National Mall, to West Potomac Park.  Not far away, but it meant that there was no road map for how to occupy and build out this site.  We worked with the staff of NREL, the Department of Energy and their consultant Carolynne Harris to design an approach that integrated a variety of circulation and transportation needs with a signage and orientation system that would encompass the entire site while connecting with public transportation, visitor services and the DC bus and metro system.  In addition to producing the graphics and maps for all of the wayfinding systems, we also assisted the NREL Solar Deathlon Team in masterplanning the site by determining the location of walkways, event tents, exhibits, food vendors, and all signage.

This was a fast track project that needed to have the design of over 150 sign types completed in about 3 months and ready for fabrication. We met the challenge and saw to it and worked with the staff of NREL and the Dept. of Energy right up to the opening to insure a successful project.
